      Shattered Soul is a 2D side-scrolling platformer. You are a lost soul looking for your missing pieces as you wander through the ether. Find souls to keep the world alight as you uncover your truth. Careful though, the darkness is seeping into the corners of your mind and all hope is lost when the world goes black.

      Shattered Soul is a sophomore 2021-22 game project spanning one year. As the sole artist on a 6-person team, efficiency and organization was a must.

Mock Game Screen

      The final look and feel of the game. Compiles all in-game assets, including the character, tileset, props, and UI.

      The game transitions from a dark to light color palette based on a karma system. The more souls you find and collect, the brighter the world becomes.

UI and Environment

Lantern UI

      Indicates how many souls you've collected and how many you have left. The chain and lantern are 2 separate images. This allows for a slight swinging motion in engine that follows the player's movement.

Darkness Mechanic

      The darkness is a diegetic timer that pushes a sense of anxiety. We used masking layers, opacity, and particle effects to achieve this effect.

      As the game progresses, a dark vignette begins to close in around the player and kills them if they aren't fast enough. The only way to regain light is to collect the souls hidden throughout the level.
